Let's do this together
A big part of the fashion environmental impact centers around you. Yes, you. What you are shopping, and how often you wear it. When you are wearing and caring for your clothes. When and how you wash and iron it. And what you choose to do once you grow tired of your favourite pair of pants.

Why is this important?
By 2030 global apparel consumption is projected to rise from 62 million tons today to 102 million tons per year. On average, a garment is only worn 7 times. The equivalent to a rubbish truck full of clothes ends up on landfill sites every second.
These are scary numbers. Let’s change it!
Buy less, wear more
The space in the far back of the closet is our enemy. Because the more you use your clothes, the better. Every time you put on those jeans, that t-shirt or those shoes – the environmental cost per wear lowers.
So, how low can you go?
Wear it again!
Have more fun in your favourite party top. Wear heels on a weekday. Get comfy in your old hoodie. Just use your clothes more! It's the first and best thing you can do.
Shop with your heart
Shop responsibly, only go for what you love. It's better to get one favourite instead of five so-so items, that are at risk of ending up in the back of the closet.
Borrow from a friend
Does your bestie have a to-die-for outfit you want to borrow? Well, if old arguments like "it would look better on me" or "we've known each other forever and it would make me happy" doesn't work anymore, try "it's for the best of the planet". Sharing is caring.
Mix & Match
Buy items that fit with the rest of your wardrobe, and are easy to mix and match in different outfits. Remember that it doesn't mean you have to shy off from colours and prints! Just pick things that are all about your style, and it will always look fab.
Skip laundry day
Maybe skip laundry day today? Of course we don't want you to go around dirty and smelly, but
don't over wash your clothes either. It's bad for the environment, and actually not too kind
to the garments. Read our tips for the best possible clothes care!
Washing machine smartness
There are ways to keep your clothes fresh that doesn’t involve an energy gulping washing machine. Like spot cleaning or airing out your clothes. And when you do wash – only do full loads.
…and don't use too much
Most people use way too much detergent when they wash their clothes. Read instructions and measure carefully.
Wash on cool
Did you know that the temperature on your care label only tells you the highest temperature that item can be washed in? That means that you can wash it in cooler water if you want to. Like way cooler. Switching from 60°C to 30°C has a huge impact on energy use, and some of the detergents actually work better in those temperatures! (Before you start the machine, we just want to point out that underwear and socks often need the higher temperature.)
Choose air
Choose air drying over tumbling. A tumble dryer is harsh on your clothes, creating burls or make colours look washed out. We recommend that you line dry or use hangers instead. Some natural materials, especially in knitwear, need to flat dry. Just put a towel underneath and wait
Choose a good detergent
Pick a brand that is better for the environment. Skip the ones with the nasty chemicals.
Take a shower
Only iron what you really need to. That way you're saving on the electric bill and the environment. But if you have a garment that you think looks too wrinkly, just hang it in the bathroom when you shower. The steam will reduce the creases in the clothes.
Let your clothes live forever
We all have clothes that we would never get rid of. Not in a million years. When it rips, we mend it. Alter it, even. Because we love the colours, cut and design. But we also have pieces that we’ve grown tired of. It happens. The most important thing is that you don’t just throw them in the trash, because they could be treasures to someone else.
Or – with a few alterations – to you again.
Turn old clothes into new
Release your inner creative goddess and turn your old clothes into new fun pieces. Crop sweatshirts and tops. Cut your jeans into shorts or make a skirt. Turn a t-shirt into a pillow case. There are so many ways to upcycle clothes – let Pinterest or YouTube be your guide.
Swap party!
As our bodies and preferences change, maybe your friends will look better in some of your stuff – and you in theirs. Host a swap party instead of joining a shopping spree. You'd might be surprised what is hiding in the closets of your friends.
Sell, sell, sell
These days we rarely wear clothes to shreds (except for your favourite jeans) so each piece can still have some value. Selling your clothes is a great way to make some extra money, and make the garment live on for longer.
If you live in the European Union, you can sell them right here at NA-KD Circle.
Give it away
If you don’t think that you can sell your clothes, then try your friends and family. Maybe one of your loved ones would love a new get up. If you don’t have any takers you can always donate your clothes and textiles to a charity, local women’s shelter or second hand shop.
Recycle
When a piece of clothing has hit the end of the line and is too broken to mend, then (and only then) it's time to put it in the bin. The recycling bin, that is. Today, the fabric is mostly used for filling but there are techniques being developed where it’s as easy as one-two-three to make a new garment out of old clothes: The fabric gets ripped into fibers that get spun into new yarn, that can become a new garment. Or is chemically recycled into new materials. Yay!
